Make your products easier to find by AI.
For manufacturers, suppliers, distributors and dealers of building materials and equipment. Buyers are starting to ask AI what to use and where to get it. AI agents working for them will do more of that legwork. Lehvel keeps your product and channel information accurate and current, so they can find what you sell, understand it, and know who to contact for a quote.
Can AI find what you sell?
Ask ChatGPT for a thermally broken aluminum window for a school renovation, or who carries a brand of air barrier near a job in Akron. The answer is built from whatever it can read: your website, your PDFs, distributor pages, directories, and other people's descriptions of you.
A good answer needs more than your company name. It needs the right product family, the values that matter for the spec, the documents that prove them, and who covers the project's location.
| Compared | What AI needs to know | Where it usually lives today |
|---|---|---|
| Your company | What you sell, and whether you make it, represent it, distribute it, sell it or install it | Website, Google Business Profile, directories |
| Your products | The products and equipment you make or carry, the brands behind them, and what each one is for | Product pages, catalogs, configurators, manufacturer sites |
| Specs | Performance values, and the standard each one was tested to | Spec sheets and test reports, often PDF |
| Documents | Spec sheets, submittals, installation guides, CAD and BIM files | Download pages, spec platforms, shared drives |
| Listings and approvals | NFRC, UL, ICC-ES, Florida Product Approval, Miami-Dade NOA, with dates | Each issuer's own directory |
| Where to buy | Who sells it in each region: the manufacturer, a rep, a distributor or a dealer | Locators, rep sites, distributor sites, sales knowledge |
| Who to contact | The right person for a quote or a technical question | Contact forms, phone trees, a rep's cell phone |
Where the information breaks
Most companies that make, distribute or sell building materials and equipment have the information. It's just in ten places, and they don't all agree.
The website shows last year's series. The current values are in a PDF with no date on it. A distributor's page still lists a discontinued model. A directory files a supply-only company under installers. The territory map lives in a rep's head.
A salesperson works around all of that by picking up the phone. An AI assistant can't. It answers from what it can read, says it doesn't know, or names a competitor whose information was easier to find.
AI agents will do more of the legwork
Today a buyer searches, reads, compares and then contacts a supplier. More of that work is moving to AI. AI assistants already research and compare. Some can already contact a business for the person they work for.
We expect people who use these assistants for travel, errands and purchases to start using them at work too. That's our read of how useful software spreads, not a measured trend in construction yet. When it happens, a share of product research will look like this:
- A buyer describes what the project needs.
- An AI agent working for them researches products and suppliers.
- It compares options against the requirements.
- It checks which ones fit the spec, the location and the timing.
- It contacts a supplier with a structured request.
- The buyer reviews what came back.
The company whose products are easier to find, easier to understand, current and easier to act on has the advantage in that process. We can't put a number on that advantage yet, and we won't pretend to.
One request, five steps
Here is the kind of request a project manager could give an AI agent: “Find three commercial window systems that meet this spec, are available through a supplier serving Northeast Ohio, and get me what I need for a quote.” For the products you make or carry to be among the three, and for the request to reach you, five things have to be true.
| Compared | The agent's job | What has to be true about your company |
|---|---|---|
| Discover | Find suppliers of commercial windows in the region | AI knows you exist, what you sell, and where you sell it |
| Understand | Read what each product is and how it performs | The product pages, yours or the manufacturer's, state families, materials, applications and tested values in text, with the documents linked |
| Qualify | Check the spec: thermal performance, structural class, listings | Each value carries its test standard and date, so it isn't guessed |
| Contact | Find who quotes Northeast Ohio | It's published who quotes that region, whether that's the manufacturer, a rep, a distributor or a dealer, and how to reach them |
| Act | Send the project details for a quote | A structured request reaches a person with what they need. It is a request, not an order |
What Lehvel does
One record of your company and what you sell. What you sell, who makes it, who represents and distributes it, where it's available and who quotes it, kept in one place. We call the company side Business Truth and the product side Product Truth. Every fact keeps its source, who confirmed it, and when.
Specs AI can read. Product pages that state the important values in text, linked to the spec sheet, submittal and test report they came from. When a value comes from the manufacturer or a listing body, the record says so. Structured data that matches the page, as another copy of the same facts, not a ranking trick.
Dates on everything that expires. A listing or an approval has an issue date. A spec sheet has a version. Lead times change weekly. Each kind of fact is checked on its own clock, and anything out of date is answered with “ask us,” not stated as current.
You decide what's public. Some manufacturer relationships shouldn't be published. Each fact is marked public, on request, or internal, and AI only gets what you've approved.
A check on what AI actually says. We ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity about your company and products and compare their answers with your record. Lehvel Observatory keeps watching after the first fix.
A controlled way to request a quote. Read-only answers first: which products fit, where the documents are, who covers a region. Then one action: a quote request that reaches the right person with the project details. It never sets a price, promises stock or commits a delivery date.
What's live and what isn't
Live today. Websites, search presence, checks of what the major AI assistants say about a company, and one managed record of the business behind all of it.
Building. The product record for building materials and equipment, with dates and sources on every fact; read-only product, document and territory answers for AI assistants; and a quote request that routes into your existing sales process. We want one manufacturer, distributor or dealer to build this with first.
Not on the table yet. Orders, prices, stock commitments, delivery dates or substitutions through an AI assistant. Those need your explicit rules, stronger identity checks and a person approving each one.
We can't promise that any assistant will recommend your products. We can make sure that when one asks, your company has a correct answer and a way to take the request.
Find out where you stand
Check My Business shows what AI assistants say about your company today, where your website and listings disagree, and what to fix first. A person at Lehvel reviews the findings before they're sent. No credit card required.

Questions
What does “ready for AI agents” mean for a building materials or equipment company?
An AI assistant working for an architect, contractor or buyer can find your company, read accurate product facts and documents, tell whether a product fits a requirement, find who covers the project's location, and send your team a structured request.
Is this only for manufacturers?
No. Suppliers, distributors, dealers and rep agencies have the same problem from a different side: which brands they carry, which regions they cover, and who quotes. The record keeps who made a product separate from who represents, distributes and sells it, so an AI assistant reaches the right company.
Will AI see manufacturer relationships we keep private?
Not through Lehvel. Every fact is marked public, on request, or internal. Internal facts are never published or returned to an AI assistant, and on-request facts send the assistant to your team.
Do we need to replace our PIM, ERP or website?
No. We start from what you already publish: product pages, spec sheets, structured data and your locator. Connections to a PIM or ERP come later, and only where a system is the right source for a fact.
Can an AI agent place an order or get a price through Lehvel?
No. The one action is a quote request, and a person at your company answers it. No prices, stock promises, delivery dates or substitutions are given by an AI assistant through Lehvel.
Isn't structured data enough?
It helps search engines read a page, but it only repeats what the page says. If the page is missing the spec or the PDF is out of date, the markup is too. We fix the facts first, then mark them up.
How do we see what AI says about our products now?
Run Check My Business. It compares what ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity say with your own facts, and a person at Lehvel reviews it before it's sent.
