Google review tap cards and stands: do they work?

2 min read · Updated

The short answer

A Google review tap card or stand has an NFC chip that opens your review link when a customer taps it with their phone. They work well at a counter or handed over at the end of a job. Add a QR code for phones that don't read NFC, and never use one to ask only happy customers.

Where they work

  • A stand at the checkout counter or reception desk.
  • A card a technician hands over when the job is done.
  • A table card in a restaurant or salon.

Before you buy

  • Make sure you can change the link it points to, or that it points straight at Google's review link.
  • Pick one with a printed QR code too.
  • Tap it with an iPhone and an Android phone before handing any out.

The same rules apply

A tap card is just a faster way to ask. Asking only customers who seem pleased, or offering something for tapping, breaks Google's review policies the same way it would in an email.

Questions

Does Google make tap cards?

They're made by third parties. What matters is that they open your own review link.

Do all phones support tapping?

Most recent phones do. The QR code covers the rest.

Tap card or QR code?

Both on one card is best. Tapping is faster; scanning works everywhere.
