Make the links-only view your default
- In Chrome, open Settings, then Search engine, then Manage search engines.
- Add a site search. Name it Google Web and use this address: https://www.google.com/search?q=%s&udm=14
- Click the three dots next to it and choose Make default.
"An AI Overview is not available for this search"
You see this when you ask for an overview and Google decides the query isn't a good fit, usually because it's sensitive, too new, or too thin on sources. Nothing is wrong with your browser. Normal results still load below it.
Hiding it for yourself doesn't hide it from customers
Most people never change the default, so when someone searches a question about your trade, an AI Overview may answer it before they reach your link. Clear, specific answers on your own site are what those overviews quote.

Is there a Google setting to disable AI Overviews?
No. Search Labs once had a toggle for the experiment, but the launched feature has none.
Does the udm=14 trick change my results?
It shows the Web view: the same ranked links, without AI Overviews and most extra panels.
Can a business stop Google using its site in AI Overviews?
A nosnippet tag keeps text out of snippets and overviews, but it also removes your normal snippet. Most businesses shouldn't use it.
