Roofing SEO: how roofers get found on Google and in AI answers

2 min read · Updated

The short answer

Roofing SEO comes down to showing up when a homeowner nearby searches for roof repair or replacement, often right after a storm. That means separate pages for repair, replacement and the other work you do, a Google Business Profile that matches them, photos of real jobs, and reviews that mention the actual roof.

Why roofing search is different

Demand spikes after hail and wind, and so does competition, including out-of-town crews who arrive after a storm. Homeowners know this, so proof that you're local does a lot of the work: an address in the area, jobs on streets they recognize, reviews from neighbors.

Lead-selling sites also rank for many roofing searches. You won't outrank all of them, but you can own the searches that include your town and your name.

What to build

  • One page each for repair, replacement, and anything else you do: gutters, skylights, siding, insurance-claim help.
  • The towns you actually work in, with jobs you've done there.
  • Photos from real jobs: tear-off, underlayment, the finished roof. Stock photos don't prove anything.
  • Your license and insurance details where they're required or expected.

Your Google Business Profile

Choose "Roofing contractor" as the primary category, add the services you really offer, and post job photos as you finish them. Ask every customer for a review with your direct link, and reply to each one. A review that says "replaced our roof after the June hail" helps more than five stars alone.

When homeowners ask AI

People now ask ChatGPT or Perplexity for a roofer in their town. Those answers are written from your site, your Google profile and your reviews, so an out-of-date phone number or a service you stopped offering gets repeated. Check what they say before a storm season, not after.

Questions

Is it worth paying a roofing marketing agency?

It can be, if they'll show you exactly what they change each month and you keep ownership of your site and profile. Be wary of shared leads sold to several roofers at once.

Should I have a page for every town?

Only for towns where you have real work to show. Near-identical town pages are a known way to get demoted.

Do Local Services Ads help my SEO?

They're paid placements with their own screening, separate from your organic ranking. Many roofers run both.
