The short answer
To check what ChatGPT says about your business, open a Temporary Chat or a logged-out browser and ask what a customer would: "best plumber in [town]", "is [your business] open Sundays". Note the exact answer and the sources it cites. Do the same in Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, and repeat monthly.
Your own chats can color what ChatGPT tells you. Use a Temporary Chat or a logged-out browser so memory and past conversations stay out of it.
Ask like a customer, not the owner. "Who does emergency boiler repair in Lakewood" is closer to real life than "tell me about Smith Heating".
Answers vary from one run to the next and shift as the pages behind them change. Ask the same questions the same way every month. Lehvel Observatory does this for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity and keeps every answer with its sources.
Some report a score built from answers you never see. Prefer a tool that shows the actual answer and its sources, not only a number.
It writes each answer fresh and may search different pages. One check tells you little; a record over months tells you a lot.
When it searches the web it usually lists sources under the answer. Perplexity always does.
You can't ask or pay ChatGPT to recommend your business.
