Why is my website not getting leads?

2 min read · Updated

The short answer

A website not getting leads usually has one of a few problems: visitors can't tell what you do or where, the phone number isn't one tap away on a phone, the form is broken or too long, or there's no reason to pick you. Check those on your own phone before paying for more traffic.

Check it on your phone

  • Does the first screen say what you do and where?
  • Is the phone number a tap-to-call link near the top?
  • Does the form actually send? Send yourself a test.
  • Does the page load in a couple of seconds on mobile data?

Check what it says

  • Services named in customers' words.
  • The towns or areas you serve.
  • Proof: photos of real work, reviews, how long you've been in business.
  • What happens next. "We'll call you back today" beats "Submit".

Check where visitors come from

Your Google Business Profile's website link should go to the right page. Search Console shows which searches bring people in. If visits come from searches for things you don't sell, the problem is what the site ranks for, not the design.

Questions

How many leads should my website get?

It depends on your trade, area and traffic. Measure calls and forms before and after each change.

Do I need a redesign?

Not always. Several of these fixes take an afternoon.

Should I add live chat?
