To add your business to Google, first search for it on Google Maps: it may already exist. If it does, open the listing and choose to claim it. If it doesn't, use Add your business in Maps or start at Google Business Profile. Either way, you'll need to verify before your edits and reviews are under your control.
Google creates listings from public information and user suggestions, so many businesses have one before the owner ever signs up. Search your exact name and town on Google Maps before creating anything, or you'll end up with a duplicate.
A former employee, an old agency or a previous owner may control the listing. Google lets you request access; the current owner is asked to respond, and if they don't, you may be offered a way to verify and take over.
