How to merge a duplicate Google Business Profile

The short answer

You can't merge a Google Business Profile yourself. If you manage both, keep the verified one and ask Google Business Profile support to merge the duplicate; they can sometimes move its reviews. If you don't own the duplicate, open it in Google Maps, choose Suggest an edit, then Close or remove, and mark it as a duplicate.

Why duplicates happen

  • The business moved and a customer or app added the new address.
  • Someone created a profile years ago that nobody remembered.
  • A rebrand, where the old name stayed on Maps.
  • An agency or employee set up a second profile.

Stopping them coming back

Make sure your name, address and phone match on your website, Apple, Bing, Yelp and data aggregators. Duplicates usually come back from an old listing somewhere that still has the previous details.

Reviews on a removed duplicate may be lost unless support moves them. Ask before removing.

Can two businesses share an address?

Yes, if they're separate businesses with their own signage and staff.

How long does a merge take?

Usually days to a few weeks after support accepts it.
